The Health Care Council of Chicago supports Connect for COVID-19 efforts to keep patients connected

Chicago, IL, July 7, 2020 – The Health Care Council of Chicago (HC3), a member-led organization creating uncommon alignment to improve the health and vitality of Chicago, yesterday joined Connect for COVID-19 to supply and deliver 40 electronic tablets to Saint Anthony Hospital, a 151-bed hospital that has cared for over 300 COVID-19 patients in the underserved community of Little Village.

“Every patient wresting with COVID-19, regardless of their economic situation or geographic location, should be able to have loved ones by their side, even if such companionship is virtual,” said David Smith, co-founder of HC3. “We hope this gift will lighten the burden of patients and families undergoing one of the most difficult periods of their lives and encourage other Chicago businesses to support our city’s most vulnerable communities in whatever ways possible.”

Connect for COVID-19 supports vulnerable patients in virus hot-spots across the country. The organization seeks to reduce social isolation by providing patients with smart devices to help them stay connected to their families and communities.

“During these uncertain times, we recognize that there are numerous shortages affecting the Chicago community and communities across the United States,” said Nimi Uberoi, co-founder and Chicago lead of Connect for COVID-19. “As a new resident of Chicago, I am impressed by the way the community has stepped-up to support its neighbors.”

“We are grateful to HC3 for their generous donation and to Connect for COVID-19 for their efforts to help COVID-19 patients connect with their loved ones at a time when speaking to family has been most challenging. COVID is a very isolating illness due to quarantine precaution and visitor restrictions,” said Sherrie Spencer, Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer of Saint Anthony Hospital.
